The Co-op, which first launched its online store in 2019, says that it saw more than 3.25 million orders placed online and through its delivery partners during 2020. The news comes as the company reported its latest annual results today.
This followed the acceleration of the company’s online and home delivery plans to cope with the new needs fuelled by the pandemic as consumers turned to online shopping during lockdown.
Its online same-day delivery service is now available in more than 100 towns and cities. Orders are serviced through 800 stores, the online shop, the Deliveroo app and as a click and collect service. The company also partners with Starship Technologies for autonomous deliveries in selected regions.
Co-op stores are used as micro distribution hubs for online delivery with orders picked from stores local to the customer, helping high street stores to benefit from the increase in online demand. The retailer can deliver in as little as an hour and up to seven days in advance.
