Products from leading sustainable toilet roll subscriptions business Who Gives A Crap are available in-store and online at the UK’s largest supermarket from today.

Shoppers can now find a range of eco-friendly products, including toilet paper, kitchen roll, recycled bin bags and sponge clothes available in-store at 247 branches of Tesco from today, and online around the UK.

Emily Kraftman, chief commercial officer at Who Gives A Crap, says: “Landing on the shelves in the UK’s biggest supermarket is a landmark moment for us and another huge step forwards for eco-friendly products being available in the mainstream.

“We’re bringing our full range of household products to Tesco – from our much-loved loo roll, to tissues and bin bags – making it easier for customers to choose products that not only look good but do good. With 50% of our profits funding access to clean water and toilets worldwide, every product sold helps push that impact further.”

Growth through subscriptions

Who Gives a Crap was founded in Australia in 2012 by Simon Griffiths, Danny Alexander and Jehan Ratnatunga. It launched in the UK as an online-only brand in 2017, and initially built its business through subscriptions. Today it is a B-Corp that also sells direct to consumers on its own website, while its products are available in-store through retail partners including Waitrose.

The company sells environmentally-friendly products, including distinctive individually-wrapped rolls of recycled and bamboo toilet paper, shipped in bulk to cut costs. Customers can opt to subscribe for a further discount. Who Gives A Crap gives half of its profits to water, sanitation and hygiene causes that improve access to toilets and clean water around the world. Donations totalled £9.8mn as of December 2024.

Today’s update comes soon after Who Gives A Crap reported full-year profits of £2.8mn in the year to June 30 2024, up 133% from £1.2mn the previous year, on revenues of £45.5mn (+17%). More than 1,800 business customers currently use its sustainable toilet roll.
