Allegro beefs up delivery offering as Amazon threat looms

DeliveryX

Polish marketplace Allegro has introduced a new same-day delivery service and built a new distribution centre in Warsaw after Amazon announced it was launching a dedicated site in the country.
The company is building the new 36,500 square foot site outside of the city at the A2 Warsaw Park. Making extensive use of automation, it will employ 1200 people.

The company also introduced a same-day delivery service in Warsaw on 8 February, working with local courier service pickpack.

Customers of Allegro Smart! will be able to order items up to 5PM and receive a delivery between 6PM and 10PM. There is also the option to choose two-hour delivery slots that are offered to the customer via SMS.

The service is priced from PLN 10.50 per shipment. There are plans to extend the service elsewhere.

The news came as Amazon announced it would launch a dedicated site in Poland, where it has operated since 2014.

Allegro is the country’s largest online retailer. Its Smart!. membership programme operates similarly to Amazon Prime, allowing customers to pay a subscription to receive free deliveries.

It invested €230 million in its delivery ecosystem last year.
