Amazon and GLS have both announced new initiatives in the Netherlands which will reduce their CO2 emissions.
Amazon has signed an agreement with Dutch energy provider Eneco to buy energy from its new offshore wind farm.
The ecommerce giant has agreed to buy energy from the Hollandse Kust Noord site, which is being constructed 18.5km off the Dutch coast. It will become operational in 2023.
Meanwhile, Royal Mail subsidiary GLS Netherlands has announced it will now offset all CO2 emissions for deliveries in the country.
The company will work with the Climate Neutral Group to find projects around the world to invest in.
The company will also continue work to directly reduce the emissions in delivery, including rolling more electric vehicles (EVs) and charging infrastructure in the 20 largest Dutch inner cities. Currently, EVs are on the road in four cities.

“By offering a climate-neutral service, we offset our remaining ecological footprint of up to 100 percent.
“It is precisely because of the increasing demand for parcel services that our sector is getting one increasingly important role in controlling climate change.
“However, climate-neutral parcel delivery also involves more investment and costs associated with new technologies, processes and concepts. Which can only in close cooperation with our customers, sustainability also demands partnership.”
