Amazon has launched a new programme aimed at helping individuals launch their own delivery business to deliver Amazon packages, whether they have previous logistics experience or not.
Available in the US it claims that successful owners would be able to earn as much as $300,000 in annual profits, operating fleets of up to 40 delivery vehicles. Owners will be promised delivery volume from Amazon, access to the company’s delivery technology, training and discounts on assets and services such as vehicle leases and insurance.
The offering is available to those with little or no logistics experience. However, although the individuals will be operating their own businesses the discounted deals will be on Amazon-branded vehicles customised for delivery as well as branded uniforms. The company claims the move will help to keep startup costs to a $10,000 minimum.
Amazon is also committing $1 million towards funding start-up costs for military veterans where it will offer $10,000 reimbursements for qualified candidates to build their business. “We have great partners in our traditional carriers and it’s exciting to continue to see the logistics industry grow,” said Dave Clark, Amazon’s senior vice president of worldwide operations.
“Customer demand is higher than ever and we have a need to build more capacity. As we evaluated how to support our growth, we went back to our roots to share the opportunity with small-and-medium-sized businesses. We are going to empower new, small businesses to form in order to take advantage of the growing opportunity in e-commerce package delivery,” he said.
