Amazon and Lidl have both announced plans to open new UK fulfilment centres.
The online marketplace is set to open a new fulfilment centre in Kegworth in England’s East Midlands area.
Expected to support 500 roles this year and over 1000 in the future, the site will support growth in customer orders and support more third-party sellers under the Fulfilment by Amazon programme.
Amazon is recruiting for a number of roles including operations managers, engineers, HR and IT specialists.
Stefano Perego, Amazon’s VP of UK customer fulfilment, said the “new team will play a crucial role in delivering a first rate level of service for our customers.”
Meanwhile, Lidl confirmed that its new Scottish distribution centre will open in November.
The 58,000 square metre centre, the largest in Britain, will support the discount retailer’s store estate in the country, which is approaching 100 separate outlets. It is located at Eurocentral, near Motherwell.
Ross Millar, Lidl’s Scotland Regional Director commented: “Our investment in this new warehouse underlines our long-term commitment to Scotland, which will help to ensure that Lidl stores from Kirkwall to Stranraer are always stocked with our fresh, locally sourced, high quality products.”
