Fashion website ASOS today announced a 47% rise in sales over the summer – while its international turnover more than doubled.

Total sales rose to £69.7m in the three months to September 30, a trading statement issued today revealed, with UK sales rising 21% to £43.6m, while international sales were up by 128% to £26.0m.

Overseas sales are now highest in the EU, where shoppers spent 71% more, rising to £13.9m, but the fastest growth was seen in the US, with a 293% rise in sales to £3.7m.

A dedicated US website went live in September, while German and French sites are set to launch during the course of this month.

Nick Robertson, chief executive, said: “I am pleased to report continued strong sales growth, both in the UK and internationally. Our US website launched in September and we expect to be live with both our French and German websites by the end of October 2010. With retail gross margin ahead of prior year and costs tightly managed, we expect our full year results to be in line with market expectations.”
