Carrefour deploys machine learning software in Belgium

DeliveryX

French supermarket Carrefour is enhancing its ecommerce offering with a new distribution centre and capabilities enabled by advanced data analytics.
The grocer is set to open a new fulfilment centre in Belgium, enabled by technology from Food-X Technologies, which will be able to serve both click and collect and home delivery customers.

Carrefour will also deploy the company’s software solution in the country, allowing it to use machine learning to plan orders. It will also be able to use algorithms to plan use of space in vehicles and manage last mile routes.

These innovations will also contribute to the reduction of waste in order to pursue Carrefour’s sustainable goals.

The integration is set to be completed by mid-2021. The two companies will look to expand the partnership to other markets, as well as conducting online research into technology and innovation.

Amélie Oudéa-Castera, head of the Customer, data and tech division at Carrefour Group, said: ‘We are very excited to start this tech partnership with Food X, which will boost the efficiency of our ecommerce operations.

“It will allow us, in one of our key markets, to pilot innovative ways of achieving a profitable, scalable and sustainable online business while delivering an outstanding experience to our customers.”
