Technology retailer Currys has announced an additional pay increase for its UK hourly paid store colleagues for the fourth time in 18 months.

Staff wages will increase from £10.35 per hour to £10.50 and to £11.50 for those working in London.

According to the omnichannel retailer, all store employees are able to earn considerably more than the average wage, with an average store employee bonus sitting at 89p per hour, with top earners taking home a £3 per hour bonus.

Alongside the pay increases, Currys revealed that the employees who have passed a six-month onboarding and skills development scheme and are performing well receive £10.80 per hour (£11.80 in London).

Currys added that it is “committed investing in the future skills of its store colleagues, with its ground-breaking learning program”.

As a result, employees will attend interactive training sessions and workshops to help them in their job.

“We know that investing in our colleagues is the most important thing we can do, especially with the continued cost-of-living crisis,” Currys chief people, communications and sustainability officer, Paula Coughlan said.

“This latest increase means that we are one of the highest paying retailers in the UK.”

She added: “I am really proud that we can continue to show our support for our amazing capable and committed colleagues, who are our magic ingredient, and at the heart of everything we do. We know that happy colleagues make for happy customers and happy shareholders too.”
