DHL serves Zalando in Spain with new warehouse

DHL has taken on a new warehouse in Spain, which it will use to serve fast fashion retailer Zalando in the country.
The 37,500 square metre development will be leased from developer GLP in Illescas, a central location near to Madrid with easy eaccess to the A42 and A4 motorways.

The site is built to a “Very Good” standard in the BREEAM sustainability certification, featuring LED lighting managed through a motion detector system. It also features solar panels and electric vehicle charging points.

This will be Zalando’s first logistics facility in Spain and its 12th overall, which the company says will reduce delivery times for Spanish customers by 1 to 1.5 days. Operations will begin by March 2021.

Jan Bartels, SVP of customer fulfilment at Zalando, said: “Building up our logistics capabilities in Spain is an important and exciting prospect for us. Spain is the fifth biggest fashion market in Europe, with immense fashion credibility through its global and local fashion brands. We’re happy that as well as having access to our great assortment, our Spanish customers will now also benefit from improved delivery times. DHL Supply Chain is one of our long-standing partners, and we are looking forward to working with them as they operate the site and set up a strong team.”

Rubén Aliseda, director of the retail and ecommerce business unit of DHL Supply Chain Iberia, said: “We choose GLP because the space it provides us meets the best conditions to structure the logistics operations and supply chain that we are going to manage for Zalando, both in terms of warehouse capacity and infrastructure to allow goods to enter and exit in an agile way, even during high demand peaks, which are increasingly common in the e-commerce environment in which Zalando operates.”

Miguel Monreal, business development director for Spain at GLP, said: “At just thirty-five minutes from Madrid, G-Park Illescas is exceptionally located and has been developed with industry-leading features, high quality materials, and with respect for the surrounding environment.

“We plan to continue to grow our presence in the region and have made significant progress in expanding our portfolio to meet the growing demands of logistics customers.”
