DPD is scaling up its presence in the Netherlands with a new distribution centre in Maastricht.
The site at the Beatrixhaven business park adds around 100 additional workstations and a 250-metre sorting machine, adding 15,000 parcels per day to the carrier’s sorting capacity.
The site has a total floor space of 6750 square metres, divided into 5,500 of industrial space and 1250 of office space. From next year the site will support electric vehicles as part of DPD’s goal to deliver carbon-neutral packages at no additional cost to the customer.
The company decided in September to accelerate the opening of the centre in order to prepare for this year’s peak period. The site was built in collaboration with Boek & Offermans Makelaars.
Maastricht is in the southern tip of the Netherlands, located close to the borders with Belgium and Germany.
Eric Dietz, CEO of DPD Netherlands: “By opening the Maastricht depot, we are further expanding our capacity in order to respond to market demands and to process peak volumes quickly.
“In addition, we have also looked at how we can further reduce our carbon footprint. We do this by using electric vehicles, but we also look at how we can efficiently plan our routes.”
