The latest ‘Leap from Lockdown’ report from eDelivery and InternetRetailing looks into the short and long-term impact of the Covid-19 pandemic on retail logistics.
Some retailers have had to accelerate their transformation into the multi-channel space, converting physical stores into distribution centres as footfall has fallen.
Other companies that have never sold their core product lines online have introduced new processes into their manufacturing so that they can dispatch directly to their customers.
The report also looks into the longer term impacts of Covid, including the surge of investment into the robotics space. The costs of running “cobots”, which support workers within warehouses, are falling to the level where they can compete with hiring new staff.
