Editorial: Have you got the vision for the future of delivery?

They may have died a death amongst consumers – remember the hype that was Google Glass? – but in the warehouse environment smart glasses are becoming the new standard for logistics, according to DHL Supply Chain, which has announced the completion of a successful trial of the technology.
The company is now looking to expand the tech, which has also been welcomed by workers within the company’s warehouses, to other parts of the business to help with applications beyond smart picking.

Sister company DHL Express has also been in the news this week after the company announced the expansion of its City Hub concept for environmentally friendly inner-city deliveries. The trial has now rolled out to The Hague and will also see the deployment of its parent company’s StreetScooter electric delivery van for the first time in the DHL Express network.

Hoping to also get itself on the map is MetaPack, which has announced a partnership with mapping and location services company HERE Technologies. The companies will work together to boost conversion rates and revenues by combining their technologies to better help retailers optimise their delivery offerings.

In the latest of our planning for peak interviews it’s the turn of Stephanie Dexter, director of operations at UPS, to explain how her company prepares for peak and how you can be more prepared too.

The best lessons come from practical learning and sharing of experience from the experts. At IRC and EDC this October that one-to-one learning comes in the form of a series of workshop streams where attendees can hear how companies have helped retailers transform their businesses.

And finally, a new concept in click and collect is being tested by new trade builders merchant BUILT/. The company is opening its first unit in Aston, near Birmingham, next month and says it will offer a new drive through lock and load concept that will allow customers to drive into their allocated collection bay and have their vehicle loaded by staff with their order.
