Online sales rebound in January following quiet Christmas
Online sales rebound in January following quiet Christmas
In today's InternetRetailing newsletter we're reporting evidence of a rebound in internet sales after a slower than usual December. Shoppers spent more online in January than they did in December, according to ONS figures out today. That's most likely down to huge Black Friday promotions that meant ecommerce transactions peaked in November, rather than the traditional pre-Christmas period in December.

Interestingly, Asda, which eschewed Black Friday in 2015, this week reported its worst quarterly sales figures, something put down in part to that decision. It seems the business case for ignoring Black Friday may now be even weaker than the one for taking part in the discounting frenzy.

Today we also report on Amazon as it takes on 2,500 staff in the UK this year, and on classified site Friday-Ad as it harnesses the power of social delivery. Today's IRX 2016 preview focuses on the multichannel fulfilment conference, while today's guest comment comes from Matthias Stadelmeyer of Tradedoubler as he considers how marketers can use data-driven insights to boost sales.
