That’s January out of the way then, bar the shouting, and 2015 no longer feels like a new year. But that’s not an excuse to feel downbeat or that everything is once again routine and dull.
There’s a tangible note of optimism in the industry, judging by some of the stories that have come my way these last few days. That serves as a great reminder that this industry is one of the lynch pins of the economy and although there’s no shortage of challenges, there is a lot to feel good about.
Waitrose announced expansion plans that include the creation of 2,000 new jobs. At the heart of it all is a new e-grocery depot in south London that will employ 450 people.
Elsewhere, DPD and Parcelforce are readying new services.
The former is opening a network of parcel shops across the UK, while the latter is debuting a service aimed at giving smaller etailers access to more flexible and sophisticated delivery options.
