Editor’s column: Carrefour plays to its strengths, DHL sounds a note of caution, Raleigh gets on its bike

This week my thoughts turn to Italy. Not because of the weather, but because I interviewed Paolo Rangoni, Supply Chain Director of Carrefour Italy, who will be speaking at EDX 2015. It’s certainly interesting to hear Europe’s biggest retailer’s take on what omnichannel means to their organisation.
You can read the full interview here.

Elsewhere on eDelivery this week, one of Britain’s best loved cycling brands, Raleigh, who brought us the Chopper and sent millions of 1970s kids’ pulses racing, has shaved (or should that be chopped) a day off its delivery times.

Meanwhile, DHL sounds a note of caution for the retail sector, which it says may be lagging behind other sectors of the economy when it comes to the issue of risk management.

We also bring you news of Royal Mail, who has snapped up StoreFeeder, the creator of Click and Drop, the online shipping tool it uses for SME customers, and a study by MetaPack which found that click and collect is more popular with shoppers here in the UK than those in France and Germany.

We also have an opinion article, written by Andrew Smedley from Antalis Packaging, which looks at the need for greater security and the role of packaging in reducing in-transit theft.

Finally, this week, we’re around a month away from our expo, EDX 2015, which takes place on 25 and 26 March, at the Birmingham NEC. We’re hoping to catch up with as many of you as we can, so do try to come and meet some of the team. You’ll find more info on EDX 2015 here.
