Fashion retailer Mango opens automated hub near Barcelona

Spanish fashion retailer Mango has opened a new hub near Barcelona which makes extensive use of automation.
Located in the Catalan community of Lilica d’Amunt, the hub covers Mango’s entire product range, serving online customers in the region as well as 2200 branches.

The hub has an inbound zone with a miniload system featuring 44 aisles and a capacity of 850,000 cartons. The picking zone comprises eight toting stations.

It features TGW’s Stingray shuttle system, an automated system for moving cartons to picking workstations. It consists of 14 ailes with 13 levels each.

Antonio Pascual, director of supply chain at Mango, said: “We are taking the next step towards modernising our intralogistics system with this new distribution centre.

“This means that we will be able to continue to offer our customers the best possible service in the years ahead.”

David Bendien, CEO South Europe at TGW, adds: “The new solution is fully automated and combines both flexibility and dynamics with maximum control over each and every process. And all this at a modest total cost of ownership.”

Superdry and Gap are other clothing retailers that have introduced more automation to their distribution centres in the midst of the disruptive impact of the coronavirus pandemic, working with Hikrobot and Kindred respectively.
