France’s Casino opens first Ocado automated warehouse

The first Ocado automated warehouse outside of the UK has begun fulfilling orders for Casino Group in France.
Located at Fleury-Mérogis near Paris, the customer fulfilment centre (CFC) will use Ocado’s Smart Platform to fulfil orders for the Monoprix brand. This is a combined hardware and software platform, consisting of wireless connectivity and a robotics grid for picking and packing.

Monoprix has launched a new ecommerce service based on the platform called Monoprix Plus.

The CFC is currently shipping a small volume of test orders and will expand to fulfil more orders over the coming months.

Luke Jensen, CEO of Ocado Solutions said: “This is a huge milestone in the Ocado journey. Two years after breaking ground on the site, the CFC is live with Ocado’s unique, proprietary technology powering ecommerce for one of France’s most iconic grocery brands.”

“As Casino’s CFC fulfils more customer orders and grows capacity over time, it will be instrumental in bringing Ocado.com’s award winning quality of service and customer experience to Monoprix shoppers across Paris and Hauts de France.”

“We recognise that this launch comes at an extraordinary time, as grocery retailers around the world face a huge task in helping communities to confront the challenges of coronavirus (COVID-19). We pay tribute to the amazing response of Casino and all of our partners worldwide in providing vital services for their customers at this time.”
