Frasers Group invests more than £200 million in automation

Frasers Group has invested more than £200 million in automation at its Shirebrook distribution centre, extending the capacity of what was already the biggest auto-store in Europe, the company claims.
In its full year trading update for the 52 weeks to 24 April this week, the company said that its investment and innovation across its supply chain and logistics operations is providing the company with significant operational efficiencies as well as supporting the smooth integration of acquisitions into the Frasers Group platform.

At its Shirebrook facility the Frasers Group has approximately 2 million sq ft of warehousing which it says enables the company to process up to 4 million units per week but still leaves capacity for further growth. The site has also seen the launch of a Dematic Shuttle machine which covers a floor plate of 200,000 sq ft, the company said.

Internationally a new development site in Bitburg, Germany will have up to 2.4 million sq ft of warehouse and distribution space which will handle around 300 million units annually and support growth across continental Europe, said Frasers Group CEO Michael Murray. The purchase of the land for the site was completed in the second half of the financial year.
