German tabloid BILD opens e-commerce portal

The German tabloid newspaper BILD has opened an e-commerce portal that complements its online presence of BILD.de. Publisher Axel Springer aims to decrease its dependency on volatile advertising revenue. And Donata Hopfen, managing director of BILD Digital, declares: “With Bild Shop we have developed an additional source of revenue for digital sales on the internet.”

The webshop offers crossmedia offers and merchandising products like a BILD.de “speed stick”, i.e. a USB stick for UMTS connectivity. As a consequence you will find ads for the webshop in print media and online presences of the Springer publishing house.

The shop is mainly targeted at male shoppers. Because many of them a soccer fans the soccer World Championship in South Africa will play a major role in the offers of the new BILD shop.
