George at Asda is to cut 50 head office jobs as it moves to a “nimbler and more agile” head office structure”.

The fashion brand, which employs about 500 people in its Leicester head office team, says it is moving away from a hierarchical structure towards a faster-moving model.

An Asda spokesperson said: “The fashion retail sector continues to change and evolve at pace and we have to respond accordingly to remain competitive. This means changing how our teams are configured to create a nimbler and more agile structure that is better suited to meet the demands of a fast-paced sector.

“Sadly, these changes will mean that some colleagues based at George House in Leicester have left the business. We recognise this is a difficult time for these colleagues and are doing all we can to support them.”

George says that the new structure will mean staff can work across different teams in ways that are best suited to their skills and abilities. “This will increase the speed at which we can bring new fashion and lifestyle products to market and provide new learning and development opportunities for colleagues,” said the spokesperson.
