John Lewis and Uber Eats have partnered to launch a rapid delivery pilot that will deliver products to customers within an 8km radius of John Lewis stores in Leeds and Stratford.

Customers living close to the stores will be able to order directly through the Uber Eats app for delivery in as little as 30 minutes. They can choose from a range of 150 curated products, including nursery, premium beauty, and gifting products. Pricing of products sold via Uber Eats will match that of John Lewis’ stores, website and app. The trial will run until early September.

Stella Winklewska, category lead at John Lewis, said: “Our pilot with Uber Eats will make it easier than ever for customers to access the John Lewis products they love, delivered to their location within the hour.  It’s an exciting strategic step to reach a new audience and helps ensure that we’re there for our customers when they really need us – however they choose to shop with us.”

Easy access to products

Alex Troughton, head of retail at Uber Eats, EMEA, said: “We’re seeing significant growth in retail on Uber Eats as customers look to get everything from beauty products and gifts to baby essentials delivered in minutes. By combining John Lewis’ product range with Uber Eats’ technology, we’re helping customers get easy access to everyday items and premium picks alike. By working together, we’re excited to bring the best of the British high street directly to our customers’ doors.”

The pilot will allow both parties to understand the demand for the rapid delivery service, what customers buy and the operational logistics of the partnership before a wider national rollout.
