Supermarket giant Edeka allows automated grocery shopping with smartphone app

Germany’s largest supermarket chain Edeka has collaborated with a Swiss smartphone app to allow consumers to automatically order groceries.

The retailer is collaborating with the Bring! app, which allows customers to create and manage shopping lists. Users can share these lists with family members and friends through the app, along with photos of what brand to buy.

Customers of Edeka subsidiary Bringmeister in Berlin and Munich will now be able to transform their lists on the app with a single click into a shopping cart and pay via the app. This aims to remove the need for customers to browse for products in store or online.

Orders are then brought to the customer’s house. If the order is made before 2PM the delivery will be made on the same day.

“We want to provide you with a personal shopping companion, who not only takes care of writing the shopping list, but also manages the entire household needs and assists you reliably in everyday life - from the menu planning to carrying the heavy shopping bags to your doorstep,” said Bring! in a statement.

“Together with Bringmeister we enable you a unique, personalised and seamless shopping experience - shopping planning and food online shopping were rarely so easy.”

Acquired by Edeka in January 2017, Bringmeister is an online grocery service offering around 15,000 products with options such as same-day delivery and a one-hour delivery window.
