In a move that will strike a Travelocity shaped ball of fear into the heart of many retailers and businesses, directory company Yell has rolled out a new version of its free that enables users to view current consumer reviews and create new reviews of local businesses directly within the app itself.

The Yell App, which helps UK consumers search for local business information on the move, has also been completely redesigned with a fresh new look.

Yell introduced the capability for consumers to review its online advertisers last year, as a powerful means by which consumers can make better informed decisions when selecting a business or service. Reliable feedback and content from consumers also supports small businesses by potentially driving sales leads, increasing loyalty and creating opportunities to improve satisfaction.

Using social media helps small businesses manage their reputation and create commercial opportunities, while at the same time helping consumers more easily connect and then transact with them. This approach is one of a number of key areas of focus for Yell as it moves to address the converging needs of SMEs and consumers.

Jason Smith, customer marketing director for Yell in the UK, says: “The original Yell App was very popular and had more than one million downloads. We have now included richer design and content and with the additional functionality of Yell reviews, it is now even easier and faster to find trusted information on local businesses and services in your local area.”

The new version of the app also includes:

a new homepage shortcut icons, enhanced user navigation, interaction and performance – making it easier to access relevant business information on the move using “one thumb” operation. It also features
extra local business content displayed, including thousands of images, opening hours and details on services. Enhanced mapping with walking and driving directions and bus routes using Google maps is also included.
