Online sex toy retailer Lovehoney is the star of a new Channel 4 documentary.
More Sex Please We’re British will air on May 8 at 10pm, as an hour-long programme telling the Lovehoney story, which started 10 years ago when owners Neal Slateford (pictured right) and Richard Longhurst (pictured left) invested £4,500 redundancy cheques in setting up the business. Today it is turning over £16m a year.
The programme meets members of the 70-strong team working behind the scenes at the Bath-based business, from founders Neal, a former member of dance remix group DNA, and Richard, who used to be a magazine editor, to Andrea and Roy in the returns department, online presenter Annabelle and, of course, ecommerce manager Matthew Curry.
“The team know exactly what goes on in the bedrooms of Britain,” says Channel 4’s information. “We’ll hear their stories – the good, the bad and the plain old ugly – and learn how they balance work and family life.”
The programme tells the story of the company from its recent move onto the high street, following its takeover of Coco de Mer last year, to its move into the US market, and the Valentines Day launch of the Happy Rabbit.
“Funny, frank and a little naughty, this one off documentary will shed a new light on the sex lives of Britain and those who help it happen,” says Channel 4.
