Royal Mail agrees new deal with CWU members

DeliveryX

Royal Mail workers in the Communication Workers Union (CWU) have agreed a new deal with the carrier after more than a year of disputes.
Eligible CWU members voted 91.5% in favour of the new agreement reached between the carrier and union.

The agreement includes pay increases effective in April last year and a further one due this April, as well as reductions to working hours.

Royal Mail has long been pushing for changes to its deal with employees, in order to allow it to introduce new technology across the network. The company wants to reorient its business away from parcels and towards letters as the former is buffeted by ecommerce and the latter declines.

The carrier says it will make changes to all of its operational areas by the end of October 2021, with changes then made annually thereafter.
