Royal Mail expands app with automated delivery notifications

Royal Mail will now offer automated delivery notifications for parcels through its mobile application.
Customers can now use the app to request automatic notifications as the parcel moves through the Royal Mail network. They are prompted on downloading the app whether they want to receive push notifications.

The service is available on items sent via a Royal Mail service, with senders able to purchase the Royal Mail Tracked option through the app to enable notifications. They can also enable SMS and email notifications to be sent to the recipient.

The carrier has also introduced the ability for senders to purchase postage through the app and print the label using a QR code at one of its customer service points.

A Royal Mail spokesperson said: “The Royal Mail app is a great tool that helps recipients manage their deliveries more effectively. The latest updates to the app are bringing more functionality to the fingertips of users.

“The new features of the Royal Mail app are part of our investment in technology that improves customer and recipient convenience.”

In May, the company announced several new initiatives to support the burgeoning ecommerce market, including a second daily delivery slot by 2023 which will comprise next-day deliveries from the previous evening. To support the service Royal Mail aims to launch three new fully automated parcel hubs.
