Shoppers in the Midlands and East Anglia can now order groceries from local Co-op stores for home delivery in as little as 30 minutes.
Central England Co-op and Snappy Shopper are working together on deliveries from 141 Central England Co-op stores, after a deal was signed that builds on a 15 store trial in Derby and Birmingham. The number of stores that offer the service is set to rise to 200 by the end of 2021.
Shoppers can order from a range of 5,000 products, from groceries to alcohol and snacks, via the Snappy Shopper app for seven day a week delivery using electric vehicles. The service comes with a £3 delivery charge, while prices will be the same as they are in store.
Andy Peake, chief commercial officer at Central England Co-op, says: “Recent times have really showed us all the benefits of being able to shop local with a trusted, community focused retailer and our ongoing link-up with Snappy Shopper is a great example of how we are improving the shopping experience for our customers and members by the click of a button.
“We are also pleased that our work with Snappy sees products picked and packed by colleagues at a local store and then delivered in an environmentally-friendly way with our special electric vehicles.
“We are delighted to be able to help make shopping as easy and convenient as possible for customers so they can get what they want, when they want it direct to their door.”
Mark Steven, chief operating officer at Snappy Shopper, says: “The expansion of our partnership reflects our mission to give more communities on-demand access to the products of local businesses. Post lockdown the demand for home delivery and the desire to shop locally is greater than ever and we are ideally placed to provide convenience stores with an affordable and high-performing tech solution to compete in the fast-changing home delivery market.”
Snappy Shopper was launched in Dundee in December 2017 and now works with 1,540 business partners with more than a million users across the UK.
• At the same time, the Central England Co-op is to use Ubamarket’s in-store Scan, Pay and Go app in a new store in Warsop, Mansfield. The app uses magic shopping list technology to enable customers to be guided through the store according to their shopping list. Shoppers can also scan products on the shelves as they shop and then checkout and pay via the app.
Ubamarket founder Will Broome says the move demonstrates CEC’s “innovative approach” to in-store shopping.
