SuperDry owner SuperGroup said its internet sales rose by 243.3% over Christmas.

The fashion retailer said the explosive online growth accompanied a 93.6% rise in retail sales to £51.7m in the nine weeks to January 2 2011.

Meanwhile total group sales, including wholesale, rose by 90.1% to £65.1m.

Chief executive Julian Dunkerton said: “This performance demonstrates the strength of our band and the loyalty of our customers. Such excellent Christmas trading figures, coupled with our continued UK roll-out, international expansion and rapidly evolving internet capability mean we are now positioned to deliver profits towards the upper end of market expectations.”

He also said that the group had mitigated the rise in cotton prices through renegotiations with suppliers and “selected price increases”. The comments come days after fashion retailer Next said the rises in VAT and cotton prices would add about 8% to store prices in 2011.
