Tesco is expanding its latest rapid delivery trial Whoosh, after a one store trial operating from its Wolverhampton Willenhall Express store began last month.
The service is now being extended into Tesco Express stores in London and Bristol with the service now available in 11 additional stores. Shoppers order online or via the Tesco app with products delivered by bike, moped or car for £5 through same-day delivery partner Stuart.
It came as the retailer revealed that ecommerce sales were up by more than a fifth on last year for the first quarter of 2021, despite the reopening of shops and hospitality. The company said the results reflect the step-up in delivery capacity that it put in place during last spring’s first lockdown.
An average of 1.3m online orders were placed a week during the 13 weeks to May 29, 81.6% up on the same period two years ago, before the pandemic.
