John Lewis ecommerce sales lift strongly as more orders are placed from store
John Lewis today said online sales lifted strongly last week, as more ecommerce orders were placed from the store.

Sales staff helped customers to place 40% more orders online during the week than they did at the same time last year, the department store group said as it unveiled its weekly figures for the seven days to August 16. They showed ecommerce sales up by 31.4%, compared to the same period last year. The rise came as overall sales for the week lifted by 13.4% to £74.54m, and also compared with year to date online sales growth of 23.3%.

“Online continued to trade strongly,” said David Barford, director of selling (group L&S) at John Lewis, “growing their percentage share of trade following a hugely successful beauty brand launch and a 40% uplift from in-store partner assisted customer transactions.”

Meanwhile, John Lewis’ sister supermarket Waitrose reported online growth of 29.5% for the week. Its overall weekly sales grew by 7.3% to £118.04m.
