Waitrose expands Deliveroo partnership to 40 stores

Waitrose has added a further 10 stores to its partnership with Deliveroo.
The service, which allows 650 of the grocer’s products to be ordered through the Deliveroo app and website, will be available from 40 stores in total from next week.

The partnership complements its own direct-to-consumer online offering. This includes the Waitrose.com offering, with over 200,000 weekly slots, and the two-hour home delivery service Waitrose Rapid, which has seen customers rise fourfold to 37,000 during the pandemic.

New areas covered include areas of London, Hampshire and Surrey.

The trial began in five shops on 1 September, following the end of Waitose’s 10-year partnership to sell goods through Ocado.

Waitrose prepared for the switch by rapidly expanding its distribution capabilities with technology from automation company Today Development Partners.

It is investing £100 million in its online offering, opening two new distribution centres this year in the London area. It now offers over 160,000 weekly slots, compared to 60,000 before the pandemic, with the goal to increase this to 250,000.

Other supermarkets selling through Deliveroo include Marks & Spencer, Morrisons and Aldi.
