Whistl makes £2.5 million investment in new trailers to improve efficiencies


Delivery management company Whistl has invested £2.5 million into 41 new double deck trailers which, as well as operational efficiencies, will include increased capacity and an improved MPG for the company.
The trailers will roll out shortly and were designed by Whistl and manufacturer Don Bur to ensure that they could take the various sizes of containers required to transport mail, large letters and parcel. Leasing is provided by TIP.

Nick Wells, CEO of Whistl, said: “The introduction of the new trailers is part of our continued commitment to invest in the business to ensure operational efficiency and improved service to our customers. We are a growing business, not only in our core sector of business mail but also in our parcel services. The new trucks give us scalable and flexible infrastructure that can handle the increasing mix of items customers hand over to us to process.

Importantly, our drivers have been through training on the new and improved operational aspects of the trailers and have welcomed their capability to reduce downtime and make their job easier,” he said.

The move follows a £9 million investment last year in 100 new tractor units to replace its current fleet.

Whistl handles 3.8bn items a year and at the end of 2015 underwent a management buyout from PostNL (which retains a 17.5% shareholding). Headquartered in Marlow, it operates from six depots across the UK.
