Zalando today opened a technology hub on Dublin’s Silicon Docks as it looks to attract new recruits in areas from research and development to data science and engineering.

Over the next three years, it plans to create 200 jobs at its new Zalando Fashion Insights Centre. Zalando , based in Germany, says the new centre will play a key role in its strategy to build the best platform for fashion retailers in Europe.

Robert Gentz, founder and member of Zalando’s management board, said: “Zalando is the most trafficked ecommerce fashion site in Europe with well over 100m visits per month. Understanding our customers and gaining deep insights into their purchasing patterns and their behavior online means we can provide them with a highly personalised and compelling offering. Investing to understand these insights has driven our growth since the earliest days of our company and has been the key to our success. The new Zalando Fashion Insights Centre will play a major role as we continue to lead online fashion and grow our presence across Europe.”

Zalando has recently moved to offer third-party UK fashion retailers and brands the opportunity to sell via its platform as it looks to provide a more localised offer in its 15 European markets including Britain.

Irish Taoiseach Enda Kenny attended the official opening. He said: “Ireland is establishing a reputation as the Internet capital of Europe and this is further strengthened by Zalando’s decision to locate here, with the creation of up to 200 jobs. Thanks to our talented workforce, Dublin’s Silicon Docks is home to some of the biggest Internet companies in the world.”
