DeliveryX

A new Zalando distribution centre has opened in Poland to support the fashion retailer’s online discount club.
Run by Fiege e-Com North, the 130,000 square metre space will serve European customers of Zalando Lounge, which provides exclusive access to a selection of products for a limited time with discounts of up to 75%. It has 15 million members.

The site is located at Olsztynek, which offers a direct connection to major expressways. There are 500 workers already employed at the site, set to increase to over 1000 in the longer term. Fiege is currently recruiting for an area manager for the site.

The site makes use of advanced automation technologies which can match single articles to orders. It also features two five-storey “picktowers” which can store several million items.

Zalando plans to open a new site near Łódź in 2020.

Martin Rost, SVP of offprice at Zalando, says: “The growing popularity of our shopping club both in Poland and across Europe challenges us to optimise our logistics processes continuously.

“With Fiege as our operating partner at the site and its team supporting Zalando Lounge, we are confident to extend our offer even further by new brands and articles, such as interior accessories and home textiles.”
