The 2020 RetailX UK Growth 2000 is published today – highlighting the strength and variety of the ecommerce and multichannel retail sector.
The report, produced in association with Critizr, Metapack and Amazon Shipping, lists the 2,000 up-and-coming retailers selling in the UK that follow the previously published RetailX UK Top500. It comes in a year that has challenged retailers and changed the way that many sell.
RetailX editor-in-chief Ian Jindal says that retail changed at “breakneck speed” in 2020. He says: “Changes in the way that shoppers – kept at home through Covid-19 lockdowns and facing social distancing measures in store – are able to buy have made a tangible – and measurable – difference to their buying habits.”
That context is set out in a market overview that analyses the challenges that have shaped shopping this year.
The focus of the report is then on growth and the four drivers of growth: more traffic, the shift to mobile shopping, easy and convenient delivery and engaging – and paying – via social media. Findings are summarised in four Dimensions – Find, Mobile, Delivery and Social – that are illustrated through case studies and RetailX graphics.
The report is designed to be a useful tool both for those that have sold online confidently for some time, and for those that are just now improving – or even starting from scratch – the way they use digital to sell online and across sales channels. The list of 2,000 retail businesses follows on from the RXUK Top500 2020 that was published in January 2020.
Jindal says: “These are business that are not (yet) at the size of the largest retailers and brands, but they play an important role in the UK economy and, despite the challenges of navigating lockdown, they are taking a highly agile and resilient approach to selling online and across channels.”
