On 03 December 2024, Sony’s industry-changing console PlayStation turned 30. Now on its fifth model, the tech giant behind Crash Bandicoot, Gran Turismo, Tomb Raider, Tekken and many more, recently revamped its subscription offering to give consumers a choice of three levels.
PlayStation Plus membership plans feature extensive libraries of current and classic games that are updated monthly and enable consumers to join multiplayer sessions online.
The subscription service has turned its back on a one-size-fits-all package, now with three tiers: Essential, Extra, and Premium.
The first level, Essential, provides monthly games, online multiplayer as well as exclusive content and discounts. Consumers can also choose between three payment options. A yearly subscription of £59.99, a three-month subscription of £19.99 or monthly at £6.99.
Extra provides the benefits of the Essential package but adds access to a game catalogue, featuring hundreds of games from “genre-defining blockbusters to innovative indies”, with new titles added regularly. This can be accessed for £10.99 a month, £31.99 every three months or £99.99 for the year.
Finally, Premium combines both Essential & Extra tiers benefits along with exclusive features such as game trials, cloud streaming, and the Classics Catalogue. This content will cost shoppers £13.49 a month, £39.99 for the three month option, or £119.99 annually.
“For the past three decades, we’ve shared an incredible journey, building stories and shaping experiences together. Along the way, we’ve found adventure, laughter, and lasting memories far beyond any one moment. We’ve forged new friendships and redefined what gaming is all about,” Playstation said in a statement.
