£50m Boots service centre unveiled to serve online and overseas customers

Alliance Boots has invested more than £50m in a new service centre that it says is part of its commitment to giving Boots customers access to its products “wherever, whenever, and however they want.”

The company, parent company of the multichannel Boots chain, has bought and refurbished its new automated service centre in Burton, which supports deliveries for boots.com as well as its international distribution and Christmas gift ranges. It says the investment has enabled services such as order online and collect in 2,400 Boots stores and has improved order tracking. In the future, says Boots, it will make next-day delivery services possible.

The service centre was launched this week by Stefano Pessina, executive chairman at Alliance Boots. He said: “This investment illustrates our long-lasting commitment to the East Midlands area and more broadly to the UK market, which I believe still has good potential for further growth.”

Ken Murphy, chief operating officer for Boots UK and Ireland, said: “Our boots.com operation has grown rapidly over the last five years. As customers use internet shopping more and more, we needed a solution which worked for both us as a business and was responsive to our customer needs.

“The state-of-the-art supply chain service centre at Burton has not only enabled a step change in operational efficiencies but allowed us to improve our customer experience with excellent environmental credentials.”
