Editorial: How eDelivery Expo revealed what state of the art delivery is about

Last week’s eDelivery Expo focused on a number of common themes; the importance of customer choice and convenience; the need to focus on improving delivery services that are already in use rather than getting too carried away with future technology and how to handle returns as just a few.
This week, and in the next couple of weeks, we will bring you roundups of some of the key points from the main sessions at the show.

In his session Bringg co-founder and CEO Raanan Cohen revealed the seven things a state of the art delivery operation should include. Streamlining processes and improving efficiencies are key, he said.

Trying to improve the experience for its customers is fashion retailer Quiz which has expanded its returns options by partnering with Doddle.

A huge factor in the customer experience is the last touch with the consumer, something that retailers and delivery companies alike are focusing on. At Sainsbury’s Dave Crellin told eDelivery Expo delegates that a loyal, committed driver workforce is crucial to success and that investment in them is vital.

Talking of workforces in his session Andy Kaye, chief executive of Bis Henderson Group and chairman of NOVUS called for more work to be done to attract young talent to the supply chain and logistics sector. He talked about the image issue which is putting off candidates and called for the industry to do more to explain the business benefits and roles available in the sector, as well as explaining how those partnering with NOVUS are helping.

And finally, when it comes to recruitment, Whistl has announced the appointment of former retailer Fabiola Sharratt, previously group operations director at The Hut, as its new operations director. She will join the company later this week and will also have a place on the board.
