Tesco is set to launch a major online clothing operation selling thousands of own-label items, according to a report in the Times:

Richard Brasher, Tesco’s commercial director, said the move followed a successful trial last year and would provide an easy way for customers to buy the “most wanted” Tesco clothing lines from the comfort of their home.

He said: “Tesco’s in-store clothing ranges have been popular in the shops where we sell them — so we’ve been looking at how we can bring the fashion ranges to more customers, whether they live near a large store or not. We’re excited about this move and hope customers will enjoy using the service, which will be designed to look different from any of our other online shopping sites.”

Mr Brasher said the Tesco clothing team would be working with existing suppliers, many of whom have been partners with the supermarket for at least five years, but would also be growing new relationships as the site develops.

For now, Tesco’s clothes ranges are available to browse online on the company’s main Tesco Direct website (although there isn’t currently a link from the homepage) and at a dedicated Clothing at Tesco site.
