Multichannel retailer Best Buy, which this week celebrated its first year of trading in the UK, says satisfaction is high among its customers.

Parent company Carphone Warehouse, publishing a fourth quarter trading update this week, said this was a “lead indicator” of the “significant opportunity for our innovative, service-led proposition”.

But there was no detail in the update for the three months to the end of March, released yesterday, on how Best Buy UK, part of Carphone Warehouse’s Europe division, is performing financially.

Roger Taylor, Carphone Warehouse chief executive, said: “Carphone Warehouse Europe has performed well, with an encouraging improvement in performance by some of its operations outside the UK.”

The company said Carphone Warehouse Europe’s like-for-like revenue was down by 1.7% in the fourth quarter, to the end of March, and up by 0.9% in the full year. But this would not take into account Best Buy UK’s figures since the operation started trading only last May. More detail is expected when Carphone Warehouse’s full-year results are announced on June 14.

Best Buy is continuing to expand its network of shops. It has eight shops. New ones are set to open in Rotherham, Nottingham and Enfield over the summer, while the company also sells online through a UK website.

Elsewhere, the company said its Best Buy Mobile connections in the US had grown by 25.9% in the fourth quarter of the year to 1.8m, and that there had also been fast growth at Virgin Mobile France.
