Domino’s Pizza today said its fast-growing ecommerce sales accounted for close to 60% of delivered sales in the UK over the summer.

In its third quarter, the 13 weeks to September 23, Domino’s Pizza UK and Ireland, said 58.4% of its delivered sales in this country were ordered online. In all, online sales came to £62.8m in the quarter, 39.3% up on the £44.8m they took in the same period last year. So far this year, the company has sold food worth £184.9m online. And of its online sales, 18.5% are made over mobile devices. Mobile sales for the year so far have risen by 46.9% on last year.

The growth in ecommerce sales came as the company’s total system sales for the period rose by 7.9% to £136.4m, from £127.0m last time. In the UK market only, like-for-like sales rose by 3.7%, while they were down by 2.1% in Ireland.

The company has now added to its overseas German operations by buying Domino’s Switzerland and taking an option on the Austrian franchise.

Chief executive Lance Batchelor said: “We continue to set ourselves ambitious targets but believe that a great product, supported by exemplary customer service and innovative marketing will deliver strong growth in the years to come.”
