In today’s Internet Retailing newsletter, we report on how the winter sales are already launching online. It seems that while Black Friday broke all records for UK online sales, tempting shoppers to buy over the internet instead of in store, according to BRC figures that we also cover today, shoppers may have spent all their cash and retailers must now discount to tempt further spending.
Will this pattern of spending have an impact on retailers’ strategies for next year? It seems the discount is here to stay but traders must consider how cutting prices works for them in an environment where shoppers have finite amounts of money to spend.
Today we also report on IRUK Top500 retailers Carpetright, with an update on its multichannel strategy, and Amazon, as it seems set to extend its logistics service. We also report on how online flower business Bloom & Wild is putting control of deliveries into its customers’ hands.
Today’s guest comment, from David Grimes of My Parcel Delivery, looks at the future for international delivery.
