The growing trend of sending items direct to the consumer has meant retail packaging is not what it used to be
There were 5.4bn parcels sent across the UK in 2021, that is 15m parcels a day. It is likely that a significant proportion of those are ecommerce purchases (with consumer ecommerce accounting for nearly 30% of the total UK retail market) and most of these would be delivered in a corrugated cardboard box.
