Croatian Post carries out drone delivery to island

Croatian Post has used a drone delivery to reach an island off the mainland.
The pilot product saw an autonomous drone, provided by AIR-RMLD, flying a distance of 6.8km between a port on the mainland to the island of Ugljan.

The drone completed the 12-minute delivery route a dozen times, including during storm conditions. It was capable of carrying loads of up to 200g.

“Croatian Post today is testing smart solutions faster and more often – from augmented reality goggles, pallet trucks to electric vehicles and drones. Our teams are engaged in artificial intelligence, robots, augmented reality, advanced data analytics and the Internet of Things (IoT),” the company said in a statement.

DPD France recently received authorisation for a new drone delivery route to ship parcels to customers in a remote village. The new line connects Footanil-Cornillon in the village of Mont-Saint-Martin in Isère, eastern France. The route allows delivery in five minutes.

UPS is expanding its drone delivery programme in the US. The Flight Forward programme has signed new customers including the University of Utah Health, drug store CVS Health, healthcare solutions provider AmerisourceBergen and healthcare provider Kaiser Permanente.
