Currys is rolling out a new in-store crime reporting tool across the UK. The move follows a trial that saved stock worth more than £20k, while more than halving reports of aggressive thefts.
The Auror platform will be introduced in all of Currys’ UK and Ireland stores. The retailer ran a 12-week trial in two regions. In the last eight weeks of its 2024/25 full-year, aggressive thefts in its stores fell by 58%, to eight from 19 a year earlier. The scheme identified 10 repeat offenders leading to three arrests. Currys says stock worth £20k was saved as a result.
The software enables store staff to log reports alongside detailed descriptions and images. This links intelligence and enables pattern identification – and replaces fragmented systems that use a range of different channels.
‘Making our stores safer’
“The rollout of the Auror platform across all our UK&I stores marks another important step in our commitment to making our stores a safer place to work and shop,” says Lindsay Haselhurst, chief operating officer at Currys. “This technology has already helped us identify repeat offenders, prevent stock loss, and support police investigations more effectively. By transforming how we capture and share intelligence, we’re building a smarter, faster, and more unified approach to tackling retail crime.”
Nick McDonnell, senior director trust and safety at Auror, says: “We help thousands of retailers and law enforcement partners around the world to address retail crime in their communities and we are excited to continue this work in the UK with Currys.
“We know the top 10% of offenders were responsible for more than 65% of crime in retail across the UK last year. Globally, one in every 10 retail crime events involve violence or weapons, as recorded by our retailers. Retail crime is not victimless – it’s often violent, threatening and organised. It impacts our communities, our frontline workers and robs our high-streets and town centres of their vibrancy.”
Today’s news is part of a safety and security programme that Currys launched earlier this year.
