Deliveroo has reported an uplift in sales and customer orders for the first half of 2025. However the company, said it has moved to a loss ahead of its takeover by DoorDash, which is expected to be completed by the end of this year.

The company reported gross transaction value up 9% to £3.8bn for the first six months of the year while GTV rose 10% in the UK and Ireland.

New merchants helped to boost sales and orders for its business, with the total number of orders globally growing by 8% to 147 million. Average order frequency also rose across all markets. Revenues, meanwhile, increased 8% to £1.05bn.

Retail partnerships help drive growth

New partnerships in grocery and retail delivered growth for the company. Deliveroo partners with a number of retailers, including Co-op, who announced last month that it was the first grocery partner to use its white label Deliveroo Express product.

Will Shu, Deliveroo’s founder and chief executive, said: “The first half of this year was very positive. Consumer engagement is encouraging, with order frequency and retention continuing to improve across all cohorts. We are delivering on our mission to change the way people shop and eat, and to bring the neighbourhood to people’s doors.”

Deliveroo reported a loss of £19.2m for the six month period compared to £1.3m profit the prior year, with the loss largely due to costs related to the DoorDash takeover. In May, Deliveroo agreed on the takeover by its US rival in a deal worth around £2.9bn.

Having been approved by shareholders, the takeover is now awaiting the final nod from regulators. It should be completed in the last three months of 2025.
