M&S has expanded its Amazon offering to the Netherlands, following growth and demand in this market. M&S Fashion sales are up 46% across Dutch marketplaces, including Zalando, making the Netherlands the retailer’s second-best-performing country for marketplace sales. With clear potential for further growth, it is partnering with Amazon to make 1,000 products across Womenswear, Menswear and Kidswear available for Dutch customers on Amazon.nl.

Scaling the business globally

M&S first partnered with Amazon in February this year, launching across Amazon stores in France, Germany, Spain and Italy. The partnership is part of an overarching plan to build a global omnichannel business that utilises the expertise and infrastructure of strategic partners through scalable, capital-light operating models. Marketplaces fit this niche perfectly; M&S can utilise Amazon’s local fulfilment network, offering next-day delivery to international customers that’s free for Amazon Prime members.

The marketplace growth follows a difficult trading year which M&S described as a ‘year of two halves’, due to the April 2025 cyber-attack that saw the UK retailer take an estimated £300 million hit to its profits. Although it achieved second-half profit growth of 4.1% year on year, with strong growth in food sales, international sales were down 7.2% year on year.

Resetting relationships

At the time it released its trading results, the retailer had already begun resetting global franchise partnerships and moving to a capital-light, online marketplace-focused model. The rapid growth in the Netherlands, combined with the fact that M&S International has seen triple-digit growth on the year through marketplace sales via its partnerships with Amazon, Zalando and About You, suggests that this model is achieving its goals.

Mark Lemming, managing director of international at M&S, commented: “Our partnership with Amazon continues to grow with momentum. As we continue to accelerate our new channel growth, we’re delighted to respond to demand from customers in the Netherlands and expand our product offer in the market, bringing the exceptional quality and value of M&S fashion to more people.”
