Amazon is installing its latest automation technology and sustainability features in a new distribution centre in Spain.
Located in Dos Hermanas near Seville, the distribution centre will see around 1000 human employees working alongside robots. Amazon’s robots carry out low-skill and tedious tasks, such as transporting packages or pallets around the centre.
Amazon is including solar panels on the roof, LED lighting to reduce energy usage, heat recovery technology in the ventilation systems and high thermal efficiency in windows, ceilings and facades.
The site will come online in the summer, serving Spain and Europe. Amazon is beginning recruitment for roles such as operations managers, pickers and engineers soon.
Roy Perticucci, VP of Amazon customer fulfilment in Europe, said: “We are proud to expand our network of operations with this new logistics center in Seville, equipped with state-of-the-art robotic technology.
“Since we started our commercial activities in Spain in 2011, we have invested more than 2.9 billion euros in infrastructure and facilities, transportation and shipping, as well as in salaries and benefits for our employees. In addition, we have also committed to investing in renewable energy as a critical step to combat our carbon footprint worldwide.”
The site will be Amazon’s fourth in Spain.
