Amazon adds new UK jobs and new US Prime Now locations

As it pursues its goal of creating 2,500 jobs in the UK – and upping its workforce here to 14,500 – by the end of 2016, the online giant is transforming several hundred temporary Christmas jobs into permanent positions in DCs across the country.
At its site in Rugeley (Staffordshire) 200 of the 3,000 staff taken on in the run-up to Christmas are being kept on as permanent staff. Amazon’s third largest UK DC, the Rugeley site now employs more than 1,200 staff.

At Amazon’s site in Cardiff, a similar picture has emerged, with 200 temporary workers being offered permanent contracts, and in Peterborough some 400 temporary roles have been converted into permanent ones.

Last month, plans were unveiled by Amazon to open a fulfilment centre in Greater Manchester, which will create in the region of 1,000 new jobs over the next three years.

Meanwhile, in the US, Amazon has rolled Prime delivery out to 11 new locations: Charlotte, Cincinnati, Fresno, Louisville, Milwaukee, Nashville, Raleigh, Richmond, Sacramento, Stockton, and Tucson. Other areas are set to benefit from expanded Prime delivery catchment areas, including central New Jersey, Los Angeles, and San Diego. In the US, Amazon Prime Now is available in around 30 cities on orders valued at $35 and over.
